can also qualify for the World Series of Mahjong by participating
in one of the official satellite tournaments.
Satellite tournaments will take place online at Mahjong
Time, and in various countries and territories around the
world. Reachmahjong.com in association
with World Mahjong Limited will hold an official 2008 World
Series of Mahjong qualifying
tournament in Tokyo on August 10, 2008.
The top prize will be a seat in the Main Event
at the 2008 World Series of Mahjong at Wynn Macau, a US$5,000
value, along
with travel expenses to Macau, and the chance to represent
Japan in this prestigious event.

Fee: 3000 JPY
Rules: World Series of Mahjong Rules ®.

The format of the tournament will follow
that of the actual World Series or Mahjong though in a condensed
time frame.
The length of the rounds and the number of players remaining
after each round will depend on the number of participants;
each round of 2 hours should narrow the field 25-50% and allow
players to carry over 25% of their scores from the previous
round.
Practice Events:
Reachmahjong.com will be holding pre-qualifying
rules workshops in order to allow players a chance to practice
playing the
World Series of Mahjong Rules ®.
There will be 12 workshops total, each beginning
at 7pm and lasting for 3 hours.
Dates: July 1st thru August 7th, 2008
Twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Venues: Tuesdays: Tokyo - Takadanobaba, Sentenbou Mahjong
Parlor (Maruishi Build. 4F, 2-8-3 Takadanobaba, Shinjuku,
Tokyo)
Thursdays: Yokohama – Academy Building Mahjong Classroom (Academy
Build. 7F, 3-32 Tsuruya-cho, Kanagawa-ku, Yokohama,
Kanagawa)
Fee: 3000 JPY for each session (for venue
and expenses)
At each session, after
reviewing the rules, there will be pre-qualifying games. Positive
points earned in these games will carry over
to the Official Qualifier in August. Each player will keep
a running total of these points.
