Given the diversity of mahjong rules as played in Asia and other parts of the world, the World Series of Mahjong will employ a simplified rule and scoring system that is fair to all, simply and easy to learn, systematic and consistent, and emphasizes the playability of the game as a competition of skill.

The World Series of Mahjong will employ a rule and scoring system we call the Official World Series of Mahjong Rules. This system is an updated version of the Zung Jung scoring system developed by mahjong master, and tournament rules director Mr. Alan Kwan. The game uses 13 tiles.
